The Selfish Girl's Guide to Shifting Gears

My husband went to his company summer picnic over the weekend where they golfed for the day and then went back to the VPs house for a barbecue. It sounds as though a good time was had by all most people were on their best behavior. The interesting part to me was that my husband won the grand prize of the party. When he told me this, I held my breath, thinking it was a trip to Vegas like usual. No, honey, he said. Its much better than that! Youll never believe what it was!

It was a $500 luxury grill!

A what?!!

Right here was where I had to shift gears. You see, I was expecting an all expense paid trip for two to Las Vegas. Thats what they always give away well, until this year anyway. Why do we need another grill? We already have 3 two that we dont use and a two-year-old one that works perfectly. What a waste!!

But wait. My husband was excited. He had this huge smile plastered on his face that I knew wouldnt come off for anything. So, instead of being selfish, I tried to be excited for him.

What makes a grill a luxury grill worth $500? I asked. Ok, so I tried.

He said to me, Well, its like the difference between a BMW and your car.

Touch.

I just smiled and said, Wow! Congratulations. Does this mean youll be cooking dinner tonight? I just had to get one more jab in.

Of course! Boy, hes hard to get.

Ok. So now I had to totally shift gears into being truly happy for him. I love to see him happy and smiling and he loves for me to rib him a little. Thats easy to do.

He cooked dinner for me and I smiled and did the dishes for him.

What does shifting gears mean?

Shifting gears is the process of shifting your focus from what you dont want to what you do want (or want to be). Its the space in between or the neutral territory. In this story, I was trying to shift out of being the selfish wife to being the happy and supportive wife. Eventually, I was able to get there, but not before I ribbed my husband a little (which he likes, by the way).

There are many ways to shift gears when you want to. One of my favorite ways is to meditate or have a cup of tea. Basically, I stop what Im doing when I get stuck or find myself somewhere I dont want to be and then I do something else for awhile until I feel like Im ready to go back to what I was doing. For me, its a way to get a fresher look at why Im stuck or how to get out of where I am. Its a change in focus, and we all need that at one point in time.

So the next time you feel like you are stuck, keep this in mind: stop, shift gears, and then move forward with a different focus. Theres a big chance you will find what you are looking for when you do.

The very phrase 'women's motorcycle jacket' may conjure up visions of tough looking women on huge motorcycles looking for a fight. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

Today, the sight of a woman on a motorcycle is not a big deal. Now, if you are going to ride a motorcycle, you might as well wear a stylish looking women's motorcycle jacket.

Since motorcycle jackets, particularly leather jackets, are always associated with the macho male specimen of our species, some may feel that while motorcycle and women may mix, motorcycle jackets and women certainly do not mix.

However, you can find a whole range of jackets that are available for women motorcycle riders, as all the jackets are not focused on the tough female. For example, we can find many jackets that enhance the feminine appeal of the woman on the motorcycle.

3) Further, the concept of style for men is different as compared to the concept of style for women. On the whole, women prefer to make a subtle and understated style statement when it comes to motorcycle jackets.

4) On the other hand, men prefer to make a loud, aggressive and macho statement about their style quotient.

This is most evident from the fact that there is a lot of differences in colors, patterns etc between men's jackets and women's jackets. You would very rarely find a red or a bottle green motorcycle jacket for men while such colors are very commonly found in the jackets for women.

5) Further, men prefer jackets with a lot of metal even though it unnecessarily enhances the weight of the jacket. On the other hand, very few women opt to make such a loud style statements through their jackets.

6) On the whole, one can find a variety of jackets available for women. Some are sporty, some are stylish and some are adorned with frills, while some give an overall cowboy or rather cowgirl look.

Of course, exceptions do exist. And some men prefer to be subtle and some women prefer to be loud and over the top.

However, generally, the choice of men and women in respect of style of the jackets differs and this must be kept in mind when you are buying the apparel.

As far as the safety aspect is concerned, there is very little difference between motorcycle jackets for the two sexes. It can hardly be said that women ride any slower than men. Speeding and reckless driving is a universal phenomenon.

Unless you enjoy looking like a vampire hunter, drag queen, or dominatrix (and lets face it, who doesnt?), avoid wearing head to toe leather. Pair your steaming hot leather pants with a loose fitting top. One great thing about leather pants is that you can still be sexy and show off your curves without showing skin. For this reason, you can also choose a skin baring, super sexy top while still being appropriately covered. Everyone knows that bare skin overload (for example, a super mini skirt paired with a barely-there top) is horrifically outdated and even more inappropriate, so any outfit that include womens leather pants is perfect for those who want to cover up without hiding their best assets.

Typically, womens leather pants do not make their way into the work wear wardrobe, but todays leather suits have completely shattered the mold. Usually, the only person that wears a leather suit is a bounty hunter or country music star, and neither look is particular attractive. However, by pairing your leather pants with a slim fitting leather blazer, you can create a spectacular look that is perfectly appropriate for wearing in a professional workplace setting.
